A DOUBLE-STOREY slice of Melbourne's music history is being sold in Richmond.

The four-bedroom house used in 1980s music film Dogs in Space, which starred former INXS frontman the late Michael Hutchence, is being sold in the inner-eastern suburb.
Centering around a group of young musicians the film followed character Sam (Hutchence) and his friends through substance abuse and the band's day-to-day life.
The double-fronted property was built in 1886, a century before the films release, by successful gold miner Henry Frencham.
Andrew Sizeland, 57, bought the rare double story weatherboard in the highly sought after area after living in a nearby street for a number of years.
"We had lived in Richmond, in the next street, and had our eye on it and when it came up for sale we bought it,'' Mr Sizeland said.
And more than 25 years after the debut of Dogs in Space number 18 Berry St remains an iconic property that attracts the odd pilgrim, according to Mr Sizeland.
"The film is a bit of a cult movie, people keep coming to the house,'' he said.
"I don't know whether it's for Hutchence or for that era.''
Spread across eight main rooms, including four bedrooms and a study, and making the most of natural light for a bright interior the house also has a low-maintenance courtyard garden.
With expectations it will fetch more than $1 million Biggin Scott agent Julie Taylor said the late-1800s weatherboard is unique.
"It's unique in its size, unique in the style of Victorian home for that particular period - (and) it's just in an awesome position,'' Ms Taylor said.
It's north facing position and iconic status are also expected to be factors in its sale.
The house also has its own dedicated Facebook page, featuring details about its film history - including images with Hutchence throughout the home.
It will be sold at auction on October 20 at 1pm.
